Hello Summer!
Published on Jul 6, 2018 09:45

It is difficult to believe that we have finished yet another school year. The year end is a time of mixed emotions in our school community as we celebrate the accomplishments and exciting activities of the 2017-2018 and also say goodbye to our Grade 12 graduating students. We congratulate our graduates on their achievements and wish them well in their future endeavours.

It has been a wonderful and busy year! From academics to leadership, the arts, athletics, co-curriculars, community service, and much more, we are reminded daily of how blessed we are to belong to such a dynamic community. Thank you to our staff and students for their involvement and in living our vision of making Vanier “a place of belonging” on a daily basis.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge a few key people that we will be leaving Vanier. Ms. Urquhart, our Vice Principal, has been at Vanier since February 2015. Ms. Urquhart will have a new and exciting opportunity as Vice Principal at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie. On behalf of the Vanier community I would like to thank Ms. Urquhart for her commitment and dedication to both Jean Vanier and Catholic education. We wish you nothing but the best. JOA is very lucky to have you as their VP! As much as we are excited for you we will truly miss you.
I would also like to thank the Home and School Association who have been overseeing our cafeteria services since 1999. Our cafeteria has been run by Wendy Horner, who has been with Vanier since 1990, and Pam Plummer, who has been with Vanier since 1995. The Home and School Association will be dissolving and we will have a new cafeteria provider in the fall. The service and care that Wendy and Pam provided to our Vanier family was second to none! They will be greatly missed and we wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavours. There will always be a special place in our hearts for them.

With the dissolution, the Home and School Association donated over $16 000 to the school.  These funds were used to purchase 49 Chromebooks for student use. Chromebooks have become an essential component in accessing learning here at Vanier. Thank you to the Home and School Organization for their incredible support of the Jean Vanier Catholic High School throughout the years. Our partnership has been a great asset to our school community and for that we will always be grateful.
